Managing Emotionally Charged Conversations

Some conversations are easy. And then there are the ones you find yourself rehearsing, putting off, or walking away from feeling like something was left unsaid.

This workshop is designed for those conversations.

In a single, highly practical day, leaders develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to navigate emotionally charged situations – with clarity, with care for the other person, and without losing sight of their own needs in the process.

What makes this different

Most communication training focuses on what to say. This workshop starts somewhere more useful – with understanding the dynamics at play, the context around the relationship, and how you need to be before the words even begin.

Participants identify a real, live situation from their own working life and work with it throughout the day – so by the time they leave, they’ve already begun to navigate it.

What the day covers

The workshop moves through three connected stages:

Seeing the system – Participants map their key stakeholder relationships and identify one that feels particularly charged or stuck. By exploring the needs, expectations and context on both sides, they begin to understand what the conversation actually needs to achieve.

Harnessing emotional intelligence – Participants explore the emotional dimension of the situation – building personal resilience, developing empathy, and getting clear on what they can and can’t control. This is where mindset and self-management come in.

Putting it into practice – Using a coaching framework and guided practice in pairs, participants role-play their chosen situation – attending to both the operational and emotional dimensions of the conversation.

Who it’s for

Leaders and managers who regularly navigate complex stakeholder relationships and want to handle difficult conversations with greater skill, confidence and composure.
